Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney are now edging ever closer to an all-American superfight. It was reported that the pair were in advanced negotiations over a blockbuster clash, which would see two of the sport’s best pound-for-pound fighters meet.Stevenson has now given the green light for the mega-fight with Haney to get over the lineMatchroom BoxingBut the sticking point was seeing the two operators argue about the fight weight, with Stevenson keen to keep Haney at a lower limit. To try and break the deadlock, Haney took to social media to propose a 145lbs weight limit with no rehydration clause. It is higher than Stevenson has fought in his career, having moved up to a career-highest limit of 140lbs for his recent victory over Teofimo Lopez.Stevenson agrees to Haney weightBut the Newark native has now agreed to the terms, in what appears to be the biggest sign that a contract can soon be signed. He tweeted: “145lbs, you have got a deal DEHOOOEEE [sic].”Haney then acknowledged and wrote in response: “Crown me No.1 pound-for-pound after this.”It means that a rehydration clause is unlikely to be included, in what is a boost to Haney.‘The Dream’ has also proposed that the pair touch gloves before the end of the year. But an agreement will need to be finalised imminently to ensure a showdown can take place before the end of 2026.How did Stevenson vs Haney come about? The American pugilists are two of the most gifted champions in the sport right now.Haney appears to have got his way with the weight, and will hope he can claim the biggest scalp of his careerBut Stevenson had previously suggested he wasn’t interested in a clash with Haney, with Gervonta Davis seen as a more realistic option. However, the super-lightweight world champion has accused Haney’s father Bill of reopening the door to their rivalry. And now a clash with the former undisputed champion is his top priority. He said: “I wasn’t really thinking about Devin, but out of nowhere, him and [his father] Bill Haney started calling my name.“So since they started calling my name, I’m a guy who likes to answer phone calls. Devin right now is my No. 1 priority. “I think Devin is one of the best fighters in the sport, and for me to go beat Teofimo and then Devin right after, I think there’s no question that you could call me the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the sport of boxing.”Watch Boxing on DAZN*If you click a link in this boxout, we will earn affiliate revenueSign up to DAZN to access the definitive subscription for boxing fans.Upgrade to DAZN Ultimate from just £24.99/month, guaranteeing access to 185+ fights annually, a minimum of 12 pay-per-views at no extra cost, as well as every Lega Serie A match and other elite football access.Alternatively, DAZN Standard is just £15.99/month, with the caveat you will have to pay for pay-per-view events.Click here to sign up.
