Ever wondered what you should do if your pet starts choking, gets poisoned or suddenly needs CPR? A series of free Animal First Aid courses is coming to communities across Malta and Gozo.The government has announced a programme of practical courses aimed at teaching residents how to respond safely during an animal emergency until professional veterinary assistance becomes available.Training will cover animal CPR, choking, wound care and poisoning, with qualified educators selected by the Animal Welfare Directorate delivering the sessions.A total of 26 local councils have expressed interest in the initiative, with eight courses taking place between October and November.The first will be held in Qala on 16th October, covering residents from Qala, Xagħra and Għarb.Other sessions will follow in Cospicua on 17th October, Floriana on 24th October, Fgura on 31st October, Rabat on 7th November, Pembroke on 12th November, Marsaskala on 21st November and Mellieħa on 28th November.“When an animal is in an emergency situation, the first few minutes can be crucial,” Parliamentary Secretary for Animal Welfare Alicia Bugeja Said said.She explained that the initiative aims to give people the practical knowledge needed to intervene safely while waiting for veterinary assistance.Local Government Minister Alison Zerafa Civelli said bringing the training directly into communities should make it easier for residents to learn potentially important skills.The initiative is being organised by the Parliamentary Secretariat responsible for Animal Welfare and the Ministry for Local Government and Public Works, together with the Animal Welfare Directorate, Local Government Division and participating councils.Would you sign up for an Animal First Aid course? •
