More than 15,000 people have benefited from Jobsplus programmes aimed at helping young people enter the workforce and supporting workers looking to develop new skills.The figures were announced during a conference focusing on the Youth Guarantee and Training for Employment programmes, which together represent an investment of around €22 million.Infrastructure, Planning and Employment Minister Jonathan Attard said continued investment was necessary as Malta’s labour market evolves.“Over the past few years, more than 15,000 people have already benefited from these opportunities for training, skills development and experience,” Attard said.The Youth Guarantee, backed by more than €10 million and running until the end of 2028, targets people aged between 15 and 29 and aims to help them transition into education, training or employment.Initiatives include Free SEC Revision Classes, Empower Youth and ALMA.Previous editions of the Youth Guarantee supported more than 6,000 young people between 2015 and 2023, with the government saying 88% subsequently obtained a qualification or certification or entered employment.Meanwhile, the Training for Employment project has an investment of €12 million and will run until December 2029, focusing on workplace experience, upskilling and reskilling through initiatives including Work Exposure, Traineeships and MySkills.Its previous edition supported 9,045 people between 2016 and 2023, with 89% obtaining a qualification or certification.European Funds Minister Keith Azzopardi Tanti said the programmes demonstrate how European funding can be used to improve employment prospects and strengthen Malta’s workforce.Jobsplus CEO Celia Falzon added that different people require different forms of support throughout their careers, whether entering employment for the first time or developing new skills later on.Have you ever taken part in a Jobsplus training or employment programme?•
