Singer and songwriter Victor Ruz has opened up about a period when he deliberately stepped away from the music industry and went silent, choosing not to release new music for some time. The singer says his decision came at a time when the industry was experiencing a surge of what he describes as “bubble gum music” — songs he felt were short-lived and heavily driven by social media hype.According to Victor Ruz, the overwhelming attention such music was receiving from fans on social media pushed him to take a step back and wait for the trend to pass rather than compete for attention. He explained that sometimes artists have to remain patient and allow certain trends to run their course before returning to their usual sound and approach.I took a break from music because the music market was flooded with lots of bubble gum music at that time, like two years ago.You know that music that has no much impact and is short-lived? That music that has no journey was too much on social media and people were over-hyping it.Victor Ruz noted that he understood that people have different tastes in music and that artists cannot dictate what excites their audiences.Dax Vibez: I had a crush on Cindy Sanyu growing upHe, however, chose to distance himself from the trend, believing that listeners would eventually return to more established musical styles.Sometimes you have to leave certain things and let them go. You can’t stop people from getting excited about anything. But you see our people, at the end of the day, you will find them resorting to the old ways of doing things. That music was a lot and it could make my ears hurt. @galaxyfmug I took a musical break because the industry had a lot of bubblegum music – Victor Ruz #ZzinaMorningSaga ♬ original sound – 100.2 Galaxy FM Zzina!
