Nicolás Tagliafico hints at retirement after his Lyon contract expires in 2027: “I want to do other things, have kids, and I'm already 34.”

Argentina defender Nicolás Tagliafico opened up about his future, his relationship with Carolina Calvagni, and the possibility of returning to Argentina when his contract with Lyon expires in June 2027. “My contract with Lyon ends in June 2027, and I don't have children. But if we have children and I want to be close to my family, maybe we'll return to Argentina. I don't know, it's possible. I'm leaving that door open, but it will depend on the opportunities here, which club it is, and how everything works out,” said the 34-year-old, who came close to joining Atlético Madrid and Juventus during the latest transfer window. His comments followed Calvagni's recent admission that she feels ready to become a mother. “Maybe having children wasn't my number-one priority in my twenties. I wanted to focus on my projects, travel, and enjoy life with my partner. Now that I'm in my thirties, I'm entering a different stage of my life, and I feel ready to perhaps become a mother,” she explained. Tagliafico also discussed the difficulties of dealing with social media criticism, particularly for his wife. “Maybe there's one nasty comment among twenty, and that's the one you fixate on. For women, it's much harder. I've gradually learned that these are just opinions, and opinions aren't the truth.” He also praised Calvagni for building her own business, explaining how important it was for her to have something of her own. “Being a ‘footballer's wife’ isn't easy. Psychologically, it's very hard. They need to feel like they're part of something, and we had the opportunity for her to focus on something she enjoys while I support her.” The defender described how they support each other while living in France, far from their usual social circles. “We have very little of a social life in France, so we have each other. We push each other when things go badly, and we act as each other's therapists a little. None of it is an act. That's just who we are, and we've always wanted to maintain that naturalness.” submitted by /u/Maleficent-Choice254 [link] [comments]
