Five things we learned as Tottenham draw 1-1 with Man United and Bentancur sees red

Wait 5 sec.

Tottenham Hotspur ended yet another gameweek without a win after their latest 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford.Let us take a look at five things we learned from the match:Tottenham cannot score when they are on topOnce again, the story remains the same for Tottenham Hotspur. They were impressive, had good spells, and could have walked away with a win based on the balance of play, but failed to do so.Against United, Spurs started the stronger of the two sides, playing with real intent and pressing high. The midfield were first to every second ball, and Lucas Bergvall’s intensity forced an early error from Kobbie Mainoo. That led to a good chance for Dominic Solanke, who fired straight at Lammens. The chances kept coming, with Savio creating another fine opportunity for Mohammed Kudus after a cutback, but again it was missed.Spurs should have been at least two goals up before United struck, had they taken their early chances.Photo by Jan Kruger/Getty ImagesRodrigo Bentancur lets Tottenham teammates down after red cardRoberto De Zerbi opted to shuffle his midfield, bringing in Bergvall and Conor Gallagher, with Sandro Tonali playing deepest. That was not surprising, as De Zerbi had hinted at a reshuffle in his pre-match press conference, particularly regarding Gallagher’s involvement. He also spoke about rotation due to the international break, with Bentancur starting on the bench after travelling long distances.Bentancur has arguably been one of Spurs’ best midfielders this season, sweeping up play and covering ground. But today was far from his best. He was sent off after just 13 minutes for a headbutt on Luke Shaw.R. Spurs were forced to play the better part of 18 minutes with ten men. Fortunately, his teammates salvaged a draw.Dominic Solanke finally finds the net for SpursIt was a mixed performance from Solanke. He missed a big early chance after Mainoo’s error and fluffed another following a cutback later in the half.Perhaps the misses were down to rust, as Solanke has been in and out of the side in recent months due to injury. However, he kept going and eventually converted late on, heading home Tonali’s cross despite tight marking from Lisandro Martinez. It was a well-taken goal, and the hope now is that it serves as a confidence boost for the forward.Savio could be a Tottenham weapon if he finds end productWith no natural creative number 10 in midfield, the responsibility fell on the wide players to create chances. Savio and Kudus were direct and lively, offering creativity and consistently beating their men.Savio, in particular, was the more threatening, recording the most touches in the opposition box and completing the most dribbles. He also created one big chance. These numbers are encouraging, but his output remains lacking. He must improve his decision-making – knowing when to pass, cross or dribble. If he can polish that side of his game, he will become a serious player.Roberto De Zerbi deserves patience despite Spurs’ strugglesWith Spurs still in the bottom three, De Zerbi is naturally under scrutiny. But it feels too early to point the finger at the manager.Tottenham’s biggest issue is finishing, not chance creation. Stats show they are among the sides with the most touches in the opposition box. That is the coach’s job – setting the team up to create chances. He cannot control whether Solanke converts them.Defending can certainly improve, but Spurs are no longer bottom and now sit 18th. Up next is newly promoted Coventry, offering another chance to turn things around.READ MORE: Tottenham player ratings vs Man United as senior 1/10 star lets his side downThe post Five things we learned as Tottenham draw 1-1 with Man United and Bentancur sees red appeared first on Spurs Web.
