DNLU Jabalpur Concludes Two-Day Credit Course on New Criminal Laws, Bail Reforms and Criminal Justice

Jabalpur, October 10, 2026: The Centre for Criminal Justice Administration and Research (CJAR) at Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU), Jabalpur, in collaboration with the Agnel School of Law, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, successfully concluded its Two-Day Single-Credit Course on New Criminal Laws on 10 October 2026.The second day commenced with Session IV, addressed by Dr. Neeraj Tiwari, Associate Professor, National Law University, Delhi, and Senior Faculty, Committee for Reforms in Criminal Laws. The session examined bail reforms and victims’ rights under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Referring to the landmark judgments, he highlighted how excessive bail amounts and local surety requirements can impede personal liberty, particularly for economically disadvantaged individuals and migrant workers. He emphasised the need for fair and accessible bail conditions.Session V was conducted by Prof. Ishrat Husain, Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, and Prof. Anubhav Kumar, Assistant Professor of Law, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala. The session critically examined procedural reforms under the BNSS, including timelines for speedy trials, bail in non-bailable offences, and the balance between the rights of victims and accused persons. The discussion also highlighted victim compensation and community service as significant aspects of the evolving criminal justice framework.Session VI was delivered by Shri Harsh Singh Behrawat, Registrar, Administration, High Court of Madhya Pradesh. The session focused on electronic and forensic evidence, emphasising their growing importance in criminal investigations and judicial proceedings. The programme culminated in an assessment of the participants on their learnings of the course, followed by the valedictory ceremony and distribution of certificates.The valedictory ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Shri Justice H. P. Singh, Former Judge, High Court of Madhya Pradesh motivated the participants and encouraged them to develop a deeper understanding of the new criminal laws and the practical implications.A comprehensive report highlighting the proceedings and key outcomes of the two-day course was presented by the Directors of the Centre for Criminal Justice Administration and Research (CJAR), Dr. Gautam Gupta and Dr. Sankalp Singh.Dr. Praveen Tripathi, Registrar, DNLU, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the Chief Guest, resource persons, organisers and participants for their valuable contributions towards the successful conduct of the programme.Dr. Ruchira Chaturvedi, Assistant Professor of Law served as the Master of Ceremony, while The two-day course served as a meaningful academic platform for deliberating on the evolving landscape of India’s criminal justice system, fostering informed discussions on the implementation of the new criminal laws and their implications for justice delivery.
