Hey all, I'm currently working on a top-down ARPG in Unreal as a solo dev using AI, to work my way through it and hopefully learn something in the process. I have no real game dev experience, I'm just an IT guy who likes to dabble with it as a hobby, and learn a long the way. Tools i got: Codex, Unreal, Blender, Meshy, AccuRIG, Figma Models: GPT 6.1 Sol High & 6 Astra High So for the question: I've been trying a lot of different approaches, to getting a 3D model into my game, and having it hold a weapon with a believable / naturally looking grip, and then do an animation without completely morphing the body in the process. 1st try: Was simply to get Codex to make a model, a random weapon and trying to get the grip to the weapon look good, and then perform an attack animation. It never got the grip to looking good, and once it started doing animations, the body got all kinds of deformations, completely morphed. 2nd try: I Tried using Meshy with Meshys auto rig. This also went real bad, not as bad as first try, but still pretty damn bad. 3rd try: I tried a clean Meshy model, and did the rigging myself in AccuRIG, and then imported it to unreal after that. This made it way easier to get the grip to be decent/acceptable, but the body still had issues with deformations, and doing weird stuff doing animations.. 4th try: I gave GPT 6 Astra high full reign to try and resolve the issue and try different stuff, to get it working. it tried doing stuff in blender, unreal meshy and all kinds of tests.. And while the grip actually ended up looking really good on different weapons.. it still ended up morphing/deforming the model itself.. SO, my question is: What workflow are you all using to get this to work really well, great grip, body keep looking natural, good animations, great attack animations. Please throw some tips my way. As a final thing, I have to say, i don't mind doing some work manually, i don't need the AI to do it all, if that is not the way. But i have no idea where to start and what to do, since there are so many tools around that can do all kinds of stuff. Please share your experiences and your workflow, to how you make it look great in your game.
