SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – Reigning Horse of the Year Sovereignty (Into Mischief), forced to miss last month's GI Jockey Club Gold Cup with a foot abscess, turned in a strong gallop on a brisk Saturday morning at Saratoga. With the fall foliage providing a magnificent backdrop over a sunsplashed Oklahoma training track, this summer's dominating GI Whitney S. winner was on his toes while being ponied to the track by Bill Mott's longtime assistant and boots on the ground Neil Poznansky just a tick before 8:30 a.m. Sovereignty was striding out nicely beneath exercise rider Jimmy Quispe and had the stretch all to himself as he galloped home with terrific energy.“You saw him train today,” Poznansky said, adding that Mott was attending a wedding this weekend. “He looks good. We just have to hope everything holds together.”Training in a bar shoe and a patch on his left hind foot, last year's GI Kentucky Derby, GI Belmont Stakes and GI Travers Stakes winner has posted two workouts since missing the opening-day feature at the new Belmont Park, most recently working four furlongs in :51.51 (50/51) Oct. 2. He will breeze again in preparation of the GI Breeders' Cup Classic at Keeneland Oct. 31, in the coming days, per Poznansky.“It looks like it's holding right now,” Poznansky said of the foot during the morning's second renovation break.“We're just trying to make a plan, checking the weather and seeing how the track looks here after the tractors go by.”Knightsbridge galloping this morning over the Oklahoma https://t.co/ZGfdyzP86L— Steve Sherack (@SteveSherackTDN) October 10, 2026Fellow Godolophin homebred and 'TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard' Knightsbridge (Nyquist), meanwhile, put on a show with a powerful gallop of his own through the fog just after sunrise at 7 a.m. He was also ponied to the track by Poznansky, who serves as the duo's regular work rider.Knightsbridge worked six furlongs in 1:12.96 (1/1) Oct. 5, his fourth breeze since posting a runaway victory in the GI Pacific Classic S. at Del Mar Aug. 22.“They both looked good today, they're training well,” Poznansky said. “Obviously, at this point, it's kinda day by day. Hope to get them there in one piece.”Knightsbridge is expected to be pre-entered in both the GI Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile and Breeders' Cup Classic at the deadline on Monday, Oct. 19.Saturday morning's worktab at the Spa was highlighted by last season's unbeaten champion 2-year-old and 'Rising Star' Ted Noffey (Into Mischief), who worked five furlongs in 1:01.93 (1/2). The Spendthrift homebred is unraced since his championship-clinching win at Del Mar last fall.'Best Turf Horse in the Country' Deterministic Leading the Way for Clement Troops…Trainer Miguel Clement is looking forward to getting Deterministic (Liam's Map) back around two turns for the GI Breeders' Cup Mile at Keeneland Oct. 31.Miguel Clement celebrates Deterministic's win in the 2025 Manhattan | Sarah AndrewThe 'TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard' had a six-race winning streak snapped–led by repeat victories in the GI Resorts World Casino Manhattan S. and GI Fourstardave S. at Saratoga–with a runner-up finish behind defending Breeders' Cup Mile winner Notable Speech (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) after setting the pace in the GI Woodbine Mile going one turn at Woodbine Sept. 12.Deterministic, a $625,000 Keeneland September yearling campaigned in partnership by St. Elias Stable, Ken Langone, Steven Duncker and Vicarage Stable, worked four furlongs in :50.51 (1/7) over the Oklahoma turf Oct. 5.“I think he's the best turf horse in the country,” Clement, back on these shores after signing for a pair of Book 1 Tattersalls October Yearlings earlier this week, said by phone from his Belmont Park base.“He's demonstrated that all season long. It will be fun to bring him back to a track that's two turns going a mile.”It's on to the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at Keeneland Oct. 30 for unbeaten Brickyard Belle (Yaupon), who backed up her 'Rising Star' debut victory with another eye-catching, come-from-behind win in the GIII Matron S. at Belmont Park Oct. 3.A $600,000 OBS April 2-year-old purchase by Case Clay on behalf of Brickyard Belle Racing, Beggs and Flowers and Briles Family Stable, she is also in training at Saratoga.“Even if we have to face the boys, I think she's good enough to do it,” Clement said. “She's dazzled us not once, but twice now. She has a lethal turn of foot when it matters most.”Oscar (Oscar Performance), second in the GI Summer S. at Woodbine Sept. 12, is being aimed at the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Keeneland Oct. 30. The Elements Racing and Hoolie Racing Stable colorbearer previously rallied gamely along the hedge en route to a narrow debut victory over subsequent MGSP Bold Leadership (Not This Time) over the Saratoga lawn Aug. 8.“I'm expecting a forward progression from him, both physically and maturity wise,” Clement said. “I'm very excited for him.”Clement added that three-time Grade I winner and 'Rising Star' Far Bridge (English Channel), second in his comebacker in the GI Joe Hirsch Turf Classic S. at Belmont Oct. 1, and Kentucky Downs Juvenile Fillies S. heroine Citrus Springs (Olympiad), are also under consideration for the Championships. Both are based at Belmont Park, the home of the 2027 Breeders' Cup.“The Breeders' Cup, it's the World Championships,” Clement said. “It's always a big deal.”He continued, “Next year, when it is back at home at Belmont Park, it will be even more sentimental. When I was a kid, we used to have the Breeders' Cup here more often and I loved it. We've had some historical Breeders' Cup races run at Belmont, and I can't wait for it to return.”Cy Fair 'Full Steam Ahead' for Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint…Last year's GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint winner Cy Fair (Not This Time), sixth after a nightmare trip in the GII Ainsworth Music City S. at Kentucky Downs Sept. 5, remains on target for the GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Keeneland Oct. 31.Cy Fair takes a spin over the Oklahoma turf | Sarah AndrewThe 'TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard,' campaigned in partnership by Medallion Racing, Swinbank Stables, Joey Platts and Mark Stanton, has posted three breezes for trainer George Weaver at his Saratoga base since, most recently working four furlongs in :50.64 (38/58) Oct. 9.Cy Fair, winner of this term's GIII Mamzelle S. at Churchill Downs Apr. 30 and GIII Coronation Cup S. over yielding ground at Saratoga July 18, will look to follow in the footsteps of Golden Pal (Uncle Mo), who parlayed a win in the 2020 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at Keeneland, then a Grade II, with a victory in the following year's GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Del Mar.Cy Fair is perfect in two previous tries against males, winning last term's bet365 Algonquin S. at Woodbine and the aforementioned Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at Del Mar.“She's doing great,” Medallion Racing Manager Phillip Shelton said.“Maybe in hindsight, Kentucky Downs, 6 1/2 furlongs on kind of a wild track, probably wasn't the ideal prep for the Breeders' Cup. But we were 1-2 for $1.5 million, which is $500,000 more than the Breeders' Cup. The other thing for us was, if we didn't go to Kentucky Downs, there really weren't great alternative prep races. I think we probably rode her more patiently than maybe what we would have, had it been a 5 1/2 or six-furlong race and the reality is (jockey) Johnny (Velazquez) never even hit her. He was never able to really ask her for any run.”Shelton added, “But, the good thing is, she came out of it well, went right to Saratoga. She likes it up there. It's quiet. It's full steam ahead.”Cy Fair, a $185,000 OBS April breezer, is entered as Hip 182 from the Taylor Made Sales Agency consignment in the Fasig-Tipton November Sale, held two days after the Championships.“The plan is to sell,” Shelton said. “You'd love to think that with the way she runs, she'd be deadly in any Grade I race anywhere in the world. Hopefully, it will be off the back of a big run at the Breeders' Cup.”The post Sovereignty Continues Breeders’ Cup Classic Preparations at the Spa appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
