Widgetscape - Rainmeter-style desktop widgets for the Mac, no skins to write. Most of this year's work, finally out

Wait 5 sec.

I'm Viorel, the person behind VPO Labs, and Widgetscape is our app. Widgetscape puts live widgets on the macOS desktop: clocks, calendar, weather, system stats, now playing, a git repo monitor, a token-usage chart for AI coding tools, and a calendar that docks to the edge of the screen as a dial. 31 widgets, a grid they snap to, up to eight sizes, four surface styles and 23 palettes. Rainmeter on Windows was the inspiration (not affiliated, and no skins to write). A few things I learned getting it out: The desktop is hard. Most of the time went into windows that sit below everything and survive Spaces, Mission Control, Stage Manager, sleep and unplugged monitors, and stay put when the resolution changes. A couple of cases are still being checked: login after a reboot and reconnecting an external display. Pricing took longer than the code. I went with 8 widgets free forever, a 14-day trial of everything with no account, and a one-time €9.99 + VAT for Pro. No subscription. Outside the App Store. Some widgets need system access the store doesn't allow, so it's a notarized download from our site with signed updates. AI tools helped. We used Claude Code and Codex for part of the work, most of all the website. The product, the design and the testing are ours and every build still gets tested by hand on real Macs. TRYFREE gives Pro free while the limited launch pool lasts, no card needed. If those free licences have already been claimed, WELCOME50 gives roughly 50% off Pro through 30 November 2026, while available. Enter either code under "Have a discount code?" at checkout. Two things I'd love feedback on: does the site make it clear what the app does in ten seconds, and which widget would make you install it? https://widgetscape.vpolabs.com (macOS 14+, Apple silicon) submitted by /u/Ok_Personality_4933 [link] [comments]
