I had a patient recently AMA and they are known for AMAing every admission and a well known history of violence and drug abuse. Security has to get involved because they tried to leave with their PIVs in. About 45 minutes after pt left he came back upstairs and was wandering the unit again, and the charge had to send him back down. He proceeded to wander the lobby for an hour and left. With all that being said, it woke me up in the middle of the night thinking about it since security didn’t ensure he wouldn’t come back on our unit and retaliate. It makes to really nervous that they are going to show up and not just wander, and the fact it was so easy to last time it could happen again.
