If they had done one or the other (crazy expensive gifts and thousands and thousands of dollars of gift cards OR the house fund) it would be different. I guess that all the people commenting on this reddit thread are part of the upper middle class or upper class. Talking about weddings that are $150 a plate when they gotta ask for the down payment for a house is insanity to me though, yes.
