Adopted a shy kitten yesterday, is this normal? (+ help us pick a name!)

Wait 5 sec.

Hi everyone! My partner and I adopted a kitten from a shelter yesterday. He was living in a big cage with two other kittens, and the shelter told us he was super cuddly and purry. So far he’s... a bit different, which I know is expected, but I’d love to hear your experiences. We set him up in the bathroom with a blanket, litter box, food and water, so he could get used to one room before exploring the rest of the apartment. The door is always open so he can leave whenever he wants. First night: he stayed on his blanket, used the litter box, let us pet him a little, played a bit, and hissed at us a few times. Once the lights were off, he started exploring (we heard him eat for the first time and knock over some stuff, lol). But every time we came in, he’d bolt under the bathroom cabinet. Today he’s made some progress: I lured him out with toys and he came out, drank water and ate in front of me. I held him on my chest for a very short time on the couch, and he sniffed around the living room and ate a salmon snack straight from the pouch in my hand. I took him back to the bathroom, because I was aftaide he needed the litter; after a little bit he pooped in the litter box for the first time. He still hisses when I try to pet him after playing, and he hasn’t left the bathroom on his own yet. I know it’s only been two days and I’m trying to be patient, but I’m worried. For those of you who’ve been through this: how long did it take your cat to come out of their shell? Any tips that worked for you? Also, we can’t decide on a name: Morfeo (Morpheus, god of sleep) or Artù (like the king of Camelot)? Vote below! 🐱 submitted by /u/matigraz to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]
