Sathiyaseela, a resident of Pachapalayam near Perur, was arrested based on a complaint lodged by a 34-year-old woman from Tiruvottiyur in Chennai.The complainant stated that she and her husband, who got married 12 years ago, decided to adopt a child as they did not have one. She alleged that Sathiyaseela, who runs a stationery store at Ramanathapuram in Coimbatore, promised to arrange a female child and a male child from an orphanage in Chennai in September this year. The complainant claimed that she paid ₹1.77 lakh to Sathiyaseela for arranging the adoption. The couple later found out from the orphanage that such an adoption is illegal and it did not have any agreement with Sathiyaseela for the promised adoption.  The complainant approached the Ramanathapuram police after Sathiyaseela refused to give the money. The police arrested her for offences under different Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act on Saturday, October 10. She was remanded in judicial custody.Published - October 11, 2026 07:08 pm ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
