What are some “losing faith in humanity” moments you’ve had in medicine?

Wait 5 sec.

Everyone in the medical field has encountered a situation that makes you wonder how humans as a species has managed to last this long. My story: Clinical rotations in a pediatric SNF/LTC. Several children from the same two parents were residents there, never visited by family, chronic trach/peg situation. The parents had a rare genetic issue that caused any female infant to be born significantly disabled, while the male infants were healthy (can’t remember the specifics of the disorder). Ended up having at least three girls as residents in the facility as wards of the state, and boys who lived at home with the parents. submitted by /u/greggylovesu [link] [comments]
