Hello! *Side Note: This post is for filling the role of the main background / environment artist for a “visual novel” style video game. If you are a UI artist, or if you are a character artist / CG artist who would be interested in working on visual novel CGs: You’re more than welcome to reach out at this time as well, and I will sort through any / all of those responses when looking to fill those specific positions in the near future. (Please just include “UI artist”, “CG artist”, etc. in the beginning of your response accordingly.) Maximum Budget (for background / environment artist): $5000 USD (very flexible, Revshare possible but not preferred) ——- I’m a writer (and I guess now, technically, “game director”?) located in the US (Pacific time zone, general Los Angeles, CA area, English first language). I have a fully completed / edited manuscript (as well as all the written game / scene direction) for a story I’ve written, to be turned into a “visual novel” or “point-and-click” style video game (think the Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Trilogy, the Danganronpa games, etc.) and I’m currently looking to fill the position of the lead background artist for the game. To clarify some things, without getting into the details of the story: There are a total of 30+ rooms/ outdoor areas/ locations in the game, each of which would need its own “background” art. (Again, see games like the Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney games, the Danganronpa games, or most any visual novel games to get a general idea of what I’m referring to.) This visual novel is over 600,000 words long, and all of the writing for the entire game is fully complete. (Estimated over ~60 hours of playtime for a full playthrough of the game.) This is absolutely not an “18+” game, or an “H-game”, or an “adult game”, etc. There are no excessively violent scenes or gore in the game, but it should be pointed out that multiple characters do pass away throughout the story. (Again, without diving into the details of the story, multiple, unfortunate deaths do take place.) Of the 30+ locations in the game, the vast majority will only need a general “daytime” version to be completed. (just clarifying this in advance to avoid any confusion, though a small handful of locations will end up needing a “sunrise / early morning” variation as well, later on) All of this story takes place 100% in the “real world”, current day. (Though, in a fictional location.) In addition to that, it might be worth noting that none of the locations will need any excessive amounts of props, items, furniture, etc. to be present in them, or any other overly complex details. —— With those brief details in mind: This is, of course, 100% fully paid work, and I am looking for someone who is not only interested in working on this project but also confident / comfortable in taking on the role of creating over 30 “background” locations in a consistent style. (In other words, I’m aware that this is a fairly large set of background pieces, so please keep that in mind when taking this project into consideration!) Anyone using “AI” in any part of their “work process” need not apply or reach out. (I humbly ask that you respect my views on this and do not waste either of our time. Thank you.) ——- Finally, if you think you’d be interested: Please reach out to me directly below this post! (I’ve been advised to not handle initial communication through direct messages or email.) Please, to keep everything organized in one place, I ask that you simply leave a response below. When reaching out: I’d greatly appreciate if you could clarify “Background Artist” in the beginning of your response. (Again, just to keep everything as organized as possible, for my own sake.) I’d greatly appreciate if you could please directly attach a few visual examples of some of your work that might be relevant to this project (background / environment art). (If you have any games / visual novels / anything else that you’ve worked on in the past, I’d definitely love if you could mention that or include a direct link to that as well!) I would absolutely love to work with someone who’s worked on this exact sort of thing in the past! (*Also, feel free to directly link or list any of your social media accounts / artist websites in your response if I’d be able to see some more examples of your work in any of those places!) With your message and some examples of your work, I’d also greatly appreciate if you could please include your rates / pricing for this type of work as a background artist. (~30 indoor / outdoor locations, let’s say no additional “time of day variations” needed for the time being, for simplicity’s sake.) *General visual references as well as detailed written descriptions have already been prepared for you for each of the locations, but of course I look forward to welcoming and encouraging your own, individual art style and original ideas as well!* —- Again, (just to clarify), this is 100% paid work. This is what I have been / will be working on full-time, and it is also being fully funded out of my own pocket. It would mean the world to me to work with someone who is not only capable of taking on such a large task but also genuinely cares about what they’re doing as well. (Again, I hate that I have to clarify this, but please: Absolutely no “AI” whatsoever.) In other words: This is not a post for an unpaid fan project or a side project. (Absolutely 100% nothing but love for all the awesome “fan projects” out there and anything that ever started as a “side project”!) As such, I hope for this game to be fully completed and ready to be released as soon as possible, while of course prioritizing quality over a rushed “final product”. -Again, the entire story for the game is 100% completed, edited, organized, and ready to be shipped (all dialogue, direction, etc.) —- With all of that being said, thank you so much for skimming through this excessively long post of mine, and I truly hope to hear from you soon! I hope this will be the start of many great things to come. Please, look forward to it! *End Note: I had originally planned on requesting that any responses be handled solely through email rather than through direct responses to this post, so please forgive me if asking for your current pricing / rates or asking for links to your social media is not allowed. Regardless, I’m sure we can discuss those things privately as a next step when the time comes! All the best, -KM submitted by /u/1716Project [link] [comments]
