If Barcola deserves to be cut some slack as he gets to grips with his new surroundings, it’s becoming increasingly harder to make excuses for Wirtz. The hope that working with new Germany head coach Jurgen Klopp during the international break might help revive his fortunes proved misplaced. Wirtz was a weak link once again on Sunday as his touch let him down and he carelessly squandered possession. This was supposed to be the season when he kicked on after a mixed first campaign at Anfield following a £116million switch from Bayer Leverkusen, but he’s actually regressed. Despite being given the No 10 role he craves, Wirtz boasts just one assist across seven starts in all competitions for Liverpool this season. He hasn’t scored since the home win over Crystal Palace in April, and he never looked like ending that long wait against City. submitted by /u/DirectorTurbulent422 [link] [comments]
