Malta’s national football team has just achieved its best FIFA ranking in over a decade, with the recent success in the UEFA Nations League helping the small island secure 160th.“One step higher,” Malta FA wrote last night announcing the latest ranking. “A positive step forward and more motivation to keep pushing. Just two years later, in December 2017, Malta hit its lowest-ever ranking, 191st… making this latest news even more impressive.It’s been a great recent run for Malta, with the team winning four of its last five international matches, drawing in the other and currently topping Group M of the UEFA Nations League with an impressive seven points out of three matches. Back then, there were a total of 175 national teams, with Brazil sitting in top and teams like Cuba, Seychelles and Chad listed in the bottom with zero points. There are now 211 national teams in the FIFA Men’s World Ranking, with San Marino sitting at the very bottom.Meanwhile, classifications for the women’s FIFA World Rankings have not been published yet, but Malta is hoping for another positive result there, with its current 92th place ranking set to face Luxembourg next.What do you make of this?
