Night shift parents, how do you protect time with your kids when your body clock is wrecked?

Wait 5 sec.

My little one is at that age where they want to show me everything. Every rock, every stick, every thought that pops into their head. I love it. But I am coming off nights and my partner is doing the morning handoff so I can sleep, and by the time I am functional half the day is gone. I have tried staying up a bit after my last shift to catch breakfast together, but then I am a zombie by evening when my partner needs a break. The guilt cuts both ways. I miss things. I am there but not present. Other night shift parents must have found some rhythm that works. Do you flip your sleep on days off to maximise family time, or is that just inviting burnout? I have been doing this twelve years and the toddler phase is throwing me harder than residency ever did submitted by /u/WillingFig1804 [link] [comments]
