West Bengal will be renamed as 'Paschim Banga' following a proposal from the BJP party. The proposal will first undergo approval in the assembly before moving to the Centre. BJP president Samik Bhattacharya stated that this new name preserves the state's historical identity. This follows the previous government's attempt to change the name to 'Bangla', which was rejected.
