Teddy Sheringham has criticised Viktor Gyokeres for his performances leading the line at Arsenal, with the former striker questioning several aspects of the Swede’s game.Gyokeres joined Arsenal last season, but his first campaign at the club failed to go according to plan. The forward would have hoped for more opportunities and stronger performances during the current campaign. So far, his chances have remained limited, and Arsenal could even look to sign another striker to strengthen their attack. Sheringham is among those who believe more should be expected from him.Sheringham was a prolific goalscorer during his playing career and has followed the game for decades. He therefore knows what an expensive striker at Arsenal should contribute.Sheringham questions GyokeresWhen watching Gyokeres, Sheringham has been unimpressed by some of the Swedish international’s displays. He believes the striker should be doing more in his role at the Emirates. His performances have come under scrutiny because of the expectations surrounding his move to the club.Sheringham believes there are areas of the striker’s game that need to improve. He said via the Metro:‘It shocks me that he’s still playing like a kid.‘I don’t think he has understood what it means to be an attacking player and what he has to do.(Photo by Mike Hewitt/Getty Images)Ball retention is a concern‘There are different ways to play striker, but he needs to be told to hold onto the ball when it comes to him.Sheringham’s concern is Gyokeres’ ability to retain possession and bring others into Arsenal’s attacks. While he accepts that the striker does some things well, he feels too many possessions are being lost.‘He does some things well, but constantly gives the ball away and when you are 28 years old, you should have learned this a long time ago.’The comments underline the expectations surrounding Gyokeres at Arsenal. With the striker still trying to establish himself, Sheringham’s assessment adds pressure on the Swedish international to improve and make better use of his opportunities._____________________________________________________________________________________________ADMIN COMMENTSo here are some simple rules which I must insist commenters follow….You agree not to give any personal abuse to other Arsenal fans.
