Tottenham legend Chris Waddle has questioned the developments over Sandro Tonali’s fitness, as Spurs’ international stars return to Hotspur Way one by one.Tottenham’s 15 internationals will all return in small groups from Monday to Thursday, as they fly in from different parts of the world, many of them after featuring four times for their countries over the last two and a half weeks.PlayerNationJan Paul van HeckeNetherlandsMicky van de VenNetherlandsAndy RobertsonScotlandAntonin KinskyCzechiaArchie GrayEngland U21Lucas BergvallSwedenSandro TonaliItalyRodrigo BentancurUruguayBen DaviesWalesMathys TelFrance U21Mateus FernandesPortugal U21Omar MarmoushEgyptMartin DubravkaSlovakiaMalachi HardyEngland U19Luca Williams-BarnettEngland U19Spurs have already had injury scares with their Dutch duo Micky van de Ven and Jan Paul van Hecke, but neither centre-back has been ruled out of the clash against Man Utd just yet.De Zerbi will be hoping that none of his other international players returns with niggles over the next 48 hours, with the Italian not having much time to prepare for the trip to Old Trafford on Saturday.Injured playerInjuryPotential ReturnWilson OdobertKneeNovember 2026Xavi SimonsKnee2027Mykhailo MudrykAnkleNovember 2026Dejan KulusevskiFitnessSoonPedro PorroHamstringOctober 2026Jan Paul van HeckeFootOctober 2026Micky Van de VenWristOctober 2026Photo by Alberto PIZZOLI / AFP via Getty ImagesChris Waddle questions Tottenham star Sandro Tonali’s ‘bizarre’ injury recoverySandro Tonali missed Tottenham’s EFL Cup clash against Liverpool with a knock, but he did feature in the club’s final game ahead of the international break against Aston Villa. The 26-year-old played a part in all four of Italy’s Nations League fixtures over the last couple of weeks, starting three of them, and playing 90 minutes twice.Waddle termed it ‘bizarre’ that Tonali recovered so quickly, and admitted that De Zerbi faces a nightmare in naming a team for the clash against United, given that many of his international stars will be fatigued. The former Spurs midfielder told talkSPORT Bet (as relayed by GiveMeSport): “I was surprised to see Tonali turning out for all the Italy games. He was injured, then suddenly he’s fit. I found that bizarre.“Listen, whether they thought it was just a slight knock and missing one game would be alright, that’s fine. But they’ve had a lot of players away on international duty who will be coming back in the next two or three days to get back to work.“A lot of these players, not just Tottenham’s, have travelled around Europe or the world for three weeks, jumping on and off aeroplanes and buses. By the time they get back to training on Thursday morning, a lot of them will be feeling tired.“A lot of these players coming back, especially those from South America or far away, might start training on Thursday with jet lag, and yet they’re expected to deliver a top performance at the weekend. It’s extremely demanding, and to be honest, these Nations League games are an absolute farce.”There is nothing bizarre about Tonali’s involvement for ItalyThis is a strange remark by Waddle, who appears unaware that Tonali did start Spurs’ 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa before joining the Italy camp, which shows that he had made a full recovery. In fact, the former Newcastle man has started all five of Tottenham’s Premier League games so far this season. The good news for Spurs is that Tonali only played a little over 20 minutes in Italy’s win over Turkey on Monday, which means he will be relatively fresher when he returns to Hotspur Way.However, De Zerbi may have a difficult decision to make regarding the likes of Andy Robertson, Rodrigo Bentancur, Micky van de Ven, and Omar Marmoush, who featured four times for their countries during the international break.READ MORE: Five huge clubs scout Luca Williams-Barnett as Tottenham face nightmare scenarioThe post Tottenham legend questions ‘bizarre’ Sandro Tonali development on Italy duty appeared first on Spurs Web.
