Universal Confirms 3 Attractions and Entire Theme Park Will Close in October

October is one of the busiest times of the year at Universal Orlando Resort, but guests visiting this month will find several experiences missing from their plans.Between Halloween Horror Nights, fall vacations, and the usual rush of visitors heading to Orlando, October can bring plenty of excitement. Unfortunately, it can also bring attraction closures, and Universal has several significant ones affecting the resort right now.Three attractions across Universal Studios Florida and Universal Islands of Adventure will remain unavailable during at least part of October. Even more significant, Universal’s Volcano Bay is preparing to shut down completely later this month, leaving the entire water park unavailable for the remainder of 2026.Credit: UniversalHere’s what guests need to know before arriving at Universal Orlando.Jurassic Park River Adventure Remains ClosedOne of the biggest closures continues over at Universal Islands of Adventure.Jurassic Park River Adventure has been unavailable since January as Universal carries out a major refurbishment on the attraction. That closure will continue throughout October, meaning guests hoping to encounter dinosaurs — and experience that massive final plunge — will have to wait a little longer. The good news is that this closure finally appears to be nearing its end.The attraction is currently scheduled to reopen in November, putting its return just in time for the busy Thanksgiving and holiday travel periods.Jurassic Park River Adventure remains one of the signature attractions inside Jurassic Park at Universal Islands of Adventure. Its extended downtime has made the area feel noticeably different throughout much of 2026, particularly with the neighboring Jurassic World VelociCoaster continuing to draw massive crowds.October visitors simply won’t have the option of riding both major Jurassic attractions during their trip.Finnegan’s Bar & Grill Is Still UnavailableThe next closure can be found at Universal Studios Florida, although this one involves dining rather than a traditional ride.Finnegan’s Bar & Grill has also been closed since January. The popular restaurant, located near Revenge of the Mummy, traditionally serves Irish-inspired food and drinks and has long been a familiar stop for Universal guests.Unlike Jurassic Park River Adventure, however, there isn’t currently a specific reopening date attached to Finnegan’s.Universal is targeting a winter return, which means guests visiting throughout October should expect to find the restaurant unavailable. That becomes especially noticeable during Halloween Horror Nights season, when Universal Studios Florida can remain packed well into the night and guests are looking for places to grab food before or during the event. For now, visitors will need to choose from the park’s other dining locations.Credit: UniversalUniversal’s Horror Make-Up Show Remains ClosedAnother longtime Universal Studios Florida experience will also remain missing during October.Universal’s Horror Make-Up Show closed in May and has remained unavailable ever since. Universal currently plans to bring the show back sometime this winter, but a specific reopening date has not been announced. The timing is particularly unfortunate for October visitors.Universal’s Horror Make-Up Show fits naturally alongside the resort’s Halloween season because it dives into the movie-making tricks used to create monsters, gruesome effects, and other memorable moments on screen. The experience traditionally combines comedy with movie clips, props, special-effects demonstrations, and audience interaction.Yet even with Halloween Horror Nights underway, guests won’t be able to experience the show this October, barring a major announcement.Universal has described its eventual return as a reimagined experience, so its lengthy closure should ultimately result in something different when guests are finally welcomed back inside.Until then, it remains another notable hole in the Universal Studios Florida attraction lineup.Universal’s Volcano Bay Is Closing CompletelyThe biggest October closure isn’t an individual attraction at all.Universal’s Volcano Bay will close completely beginning October 26, taking an entire Universal Orlando theme park out of operation. And this won’t be a short closure.Volcano Bay is expected to remain closed through the rest of 2026, with the water park scheduled to reopen on or before April 1, 2027.That means anyone planning a late-October, November, December, or early 2027 Universal Orlando vacation needs to pay particularly close attention.Once October 26 arrives, Volcano Bay will no longer be an option for guests looking to add a water park day to their vacation. The closure affects the entire park rather than a handful of slides. Guests will temporarily lose access to Volcano Bay’s complete attraction lineup, including Krakatau Aqua Coaster, Ko’okiri Body Plunge, Waturi Beach, TeAwa The Fearless River, and the park’s numerous slides, pools, and relaxation areas. The extended closure will allow Universal to complete work during the cooler portion of the year before reopening the water park for the warmer spring and summer travel seasons.Credit: UniversalUniversal Orlando Still Has Plenty OpenThese closures certainly don’t mean guests should cancel their October Universal Orlando vacations.Universal Studios Florida and Universal Islands of Adventure continue operating, while Epic Universe gives visitors another full theme park to explore. October also brings Halloween Horror Nights to Universal Studios Florida, making this one of Universal Orlando’s biggest periods of the entire year.Still, knowing about closures ahead of time can make a huge difference.Someone booking a Universal Orlando trip specifically to ride Jurassic Park River Adventure could understandably be disappointed to arrive and discover it unavailable. The same goes for longtime fans hoping to catch Universal’s Horror Make-Up Show or eat at Finnegan’s.Volcano Bay requires even more planning because its October 26 closure removes an entire park from the equation for several months. For guests arriving before October 26, there is still time to work Volcano Bay into their vacation. Anyone arriving on or after that date will need to build their trip around Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure, and Epic Universe instead.Universal Orlando is constantly changing, and refurbishment closures are simply part of keeping attractions and parks operating over the long term. This October, however, the closure list is substantial enough that guests should check their itinerary before heading through the gates.Three experiences will remain unavailable, and beginning October 26, an entire Universal theme park will join them. The post Universal Confirms 3 Attractions and Entire Theme Park Will Close in October appeared first on Inside the Magic.
