So I’ve been getting into anime more recently than I ever have in my life and have been powering through show after show, I’ve been primarily watching anime’s that are both finished and dubbed, though neither are huge priorities. Anyways, one of the things that has drawn me into anime now, and in the past, is how wild and intense the fight scenes and gore can be while maintaining an intriguing plot and story. As well as the willingness to touch on the disturbing sides of human nature and not bail out the protagonists with a fairy tale ending like most shows/movies in America. So with all that being said, I’ve been trying to find the most fucked up animes. For instance I’ve seen Attack on Titan, Devilman Crybaby, Speed Grapher, Gantz and Berserk (1997 and The Golden Age movies). The latter 3 were the ones I watched that were recommended as being disturbing in other posts on Reddit; however, I only found the climax of Berserk (the Eclipse episodes) to truly be disturbing. That being said I liked all those anime’s and they were worth the watch, but I’m trying to find more anime’s that contain actually disturbing and intensely nightmarish subject material like those episodes of Berserk. I feel like what made those episodes so intense was the storyline up until that point, and it coming so far out of left field, so I’m fine if there’s an anime recommended that only has one or two episodes with truly horrifying scenes like that. The other anime’s I’ve yet to watch that are recommended in this “category” are Higurashi (when they cry), Made in Abyss, Shinsekai Yori and Perfect Blue. But are there any more disturbing anime’s I should add to the watch list? submitted by /u/BruceBaxter to r/Animedubs [link] [comments]
