I dont think this is that wild of a list, particularly if you cant see things that were already bought. Our registry was a range of expensive gifts and cheap gifts. Some people will want to splurge and it's better to give them the exact thing you want rather than them spending big money on stuff you hate or will toss, and some people have like $20 and chip dust in thier wallet and should be able to find something small to contribute if they still want to contribute. Lots of our friends contributed time to help with set up and diy stuff, or came from far afield and I asked them not to go crazy on a gift because the gift was them being there with us. We got a lot of expensive, awesome gifts that we still use 9 years later. We also got some cheap gifts with the same longevity. A wedding is exactly the time to put the expensive stuff on the list, as long as it's not the only thing on the list.
