Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi has been handed a warning about his treatment of young teenage prodigy Luca Williams-Barnett.The Spurs head coach has, so far, resisted the growing chorus of calls for Williams-Barnett to be handed opportunities in the Premier League. However, in his press conference last Friday, De Zerbi admitted that the 18-year-old Tottenham starlet is very much in his thoughts, and hinted that first-team opportunities may not be far away. When asked if we could see the attacking midfielder soon starting matches, the Italian responded: “I’m thinking. I’m thinking, because he’s another special player. But he’s very young, and the management of the very, very young players is very complicated.“Because sometimes you want to be the good of the players, of you, but you are not doing the good of the player. But I think he arrived [at] the moment when Luca would play because he’s special.”Credit: @oscar.visualss / InstagramBryan King questions Roberto De Zerbi’s treatment of Tottenham’s Luca Williams-BarnettAs the Spurs starlet waits for his Premier League debut, reports have indicated that some of the biggest clubs in the world are plotting moves for Williams-Barnett.Former Tottenham senior scout Bryan King is not a believer in sending youngsters out on loan, suggesting instead that they should be thrown in the deep end and allowed to develop at the highest level. When asked for his thoughts on Williams-Barnett, King told Football Insider: “He’s a player very similar to Mikey Moore, a bit younger. I can see him going out on loan somewhere. He took him to Australia along with Moore, and now Moore’s in Germany. I don’t know, I know it helps them grow up and all that.“But for me, it just delays when they’re actually going to be used as a regular first-team player. I don’t think he’ll go anywhere. If he’s going to go anywhere, he’ll be on loan. “Asked about De Zerbi’s selections and his reluctance to give the teenager an opportunity, King added: “I think the way he’s trying to build Tottenham is placing a lot of pressure on young players coming into a side which is not functioning. Probably doing more harm than good.”Spurs have made a promise to Williams-BarnettAccording to some updates over recent days, Tottenham have already moved to hold talks with Williams-Barnett over a new deal, even though the youngster only signed his first professional contract 12 months ago. This is down to the attacking midfielder attracting interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Spurs determined not to lose him.In fact, Tottenham insider Szyexcl revealed recently that the Lilywhites told Williams-Barnett he will get first-team minutes this season.
