XAUUSD Pre-NY | Hawkish Fed + $104 Oil vs a Gold That Won't FallGold vs US DollarPEPPERSTONE:XAUUSDGold_Liquidity_Lab_ChatUPDATE 12:00 UTC, PRICE ~4124. BIAS: Neutral and coiled. The macro backdrop points lower, but price is refusing to fall. The 4103–4143 range break decides the next leg. WHAT HAPPENED On Wednesday gold broke the 4104.8 floor and spiked to 4066.35, then recovered $44 to close back above it at 4110.8. The long lower wick shows buyers defended hard. Today, the Asia low held at 4103.0, just above the floor. A 00:45–01:00 UTC rally on strong volume (about 1.35x average) lifted price to 4135, with the Asia high at 4143.3. London then printed lower highs (4143, 4135, 4131) and a low of 4109.9 at 10:30 UTC. It's an inside day so far, within Wednesday's range. FED: HAWKISH, PRICED IN Wednesday's FOMC minutes showed all 19 officials backed the September hike. Most see another 2026 hike as likely appropriate, almost all see inflation risks tilted higher, several describe policy as not or only mildly restrictive, and the staff outlook was upgraded from July. Today Governor Waller said he anticipates additional hikes if data come in as expected. Markets now fully price a 25 bp hike in December. OIL: SURGING AGAIN WTI rose from 88.3 to 92.3 (about +4.5%) and Brent is above $104. Reports say the White House asked the Pentagon to prepare strike options against Iran, and there are doubts Trump will delay escalation until after the midterms. A tanker was struck near Qatar with casualties reported, about 25% of US Gulf oil output is shut in, and supertanker rates are at record highs. MIDDLE EAST: TWO-WAY Escalation: the Houthis claim a strike on Riyadh's main airport, reports say strikes on two Saudi airports killed three, and Iran says it won't back down on enrichment. Diplomacy: Iran's foreign minister says negotiations are ongoing and Iran will reply to the US proposal within a few days, and Iran says it has agreed safe Hormuz transit routes with Oman. Iran's reply is a binary risk this week. GLOBAL HAWKS ECB's Lane expects core inflation to rise and says the bank will act forcefully if needed, and a poll sees the ECB hiking to 2.75% in December. The BoE's Greene and Pill say price pressures must be tackled. The BoJ reports firms raising prices on Middle East-related costs. CROSS-ASSET DXY 102.41 (up) | US10Y 5.33% (up) | WTI 92.28 (up) | Silver 58.76 (weak). All four are against gold. Yet with oil up about 4.5% and yields at highs, gold is still holding above 4103. Gold refusing to fall into bad news suggests buyers are absorbing the selling. That's an early tell, not a signal. Silver is weak while gold holds, a divergence that's a warning in both directions. DAILY RANGE The average daily range is about $81–85. Today has used about $40 (roughly 48%), leaving room to run either way. VOLUME PROFILE (TODAY) VAH 4136 | POC 4123 | VAL 4117.
