DP World Tour CEO Guy Kinnings hopes ‘immense asset’ Rory McIlroy will continue to help grow the expanding organisation. The DP World Tour is currently enjoying a brilliant run of tournaments, aided by the early finish to the PGA Tour season and the players jumping ship from LIV Golf.McIlroy remains the main man on the DP World TourGettyThe tour’s flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, has consistently had a top-class field over the last few years. But the Irish Open, Open de France, Alfred Dunhill Links and this week’s Open de Espana have all enjoyed bumps in quality too this autumn.Players from LIV have not been allowed to play on the PGA Tour but they are on Kinnings’ circuit, adding an extra level of intrigue, competition and big-name value.Despite that, Rory McIlroy remains the main man on the DP World Tour and has the chance to win a record-equalling 8th Order of Merit title this winter.Kinnings has hailed the impact the Grand Slam winning Northern Irishman continues to have on golf around the world.‘We’re very lucky to have Rory McIlroy’He told talkSPORT: “Rory is an immense asset for us. “I mean, he’s not just the first European to win a Grand Slam, he is an extraordinary spokesman for the tour. “He doesn’t just speak brilliantly about what we want to do. He, along with a lot of the dual members who play the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour, have been such supporters.“Rory last year, I was joking with the chairman of Augusta, I said ‘you’ve had many great champions, but I don’t think many have taken the green jacket quite to as many places as Rory did’. He was everywhere – Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ireland, Australia, India. “And to go to a market like India, which as we all know is rather focused on just one sport, if you can just get a little bit of their attention. “Watching Rory on the stage with a green jacket standing next to Sachin Tendulkar for me was just a magic moment. “We’re very lucky to have him and those other players who support us.“For us at Wentworth, to have [Open champion Ryan] Foxy and [PGA Championship winner] Aaron [Rai] and Rory, first time in 15 years, three major champions from our tour, they help raise that profile around the world. “We’re very fortunate.”The DP World Tour is working hard behind the scenes with the PGA Tour to help provide a full year of playing opportunities for top-class players.‘Amazing tournaments, amazing players, amazing golf courses’The future of LIV remains up in the air and Kinnings is eager to see those players continue to play in the elevated season schedule next year. There will be 17 national opens in the 2027 season, up from 13 this year, and Kinnings believes his product holds massive scope to grow.He added: “For us right now, I have no idea what will happen with LIV, who knows? “But as you’ve seen, a lot of the players seem to want to come play in our events. “Working very closely with Brian Rolap and with the PGA Tour is what we’d always envisaged.Kinnings and McIlroy are eyeing a big future for the DP World TourGettyRemaining DP World Tour events this seasonOpen de EspanaOct 8 – 11: Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, Spain – $3.75m purse / 5,000 R2D pointsDP World India ChampionshipOct 15 – 18: Delhi GC, India – $4m purse / 5,000 R2D pointsGenesis ChampionshipOct 22 – 25: Woo Jeong Hills CC, South Korea – $4m purse / 5,000 R2D pointsAbu Dhabi ChampionshipNov 5 – 8: Yas Links GC, Abu Dhabi (playoff event) – $9m purse / 9,000 R2D pointsDP World Tour ChampionshipNov 12 – 15: Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai (playoff event) – $10m purse / 12,000 R2D points“We want golf to be strong in North America. We want golf to be really strong internationally.“I personally don’t think there’s ever been a better opportunity to shine a light on how great golf is around the globe – amazing tournaments, amazing players, amazing golf courses.“If we do our best to make sure those two bits of the season work as well as they can, then I think it’ll be really healthy and it’s something we’ve been building to. “I think the next step is to make sure these international events, with pathways around the world for the best players to funnel through to the top of the game, I think it’s a real opportunity.”The DP World Tour is in Madrid this week for the 2026 Open de Espana as England’s Marco Penge defends his title.
