I’m building a small Shopify tool for receiving supplier stock. The original idea sounded pretty simple. Upload a supplier file, match the products, update inventory. Done. Then I started thinking about what happens when things don’t go to plan. Imagine a store orders 20 units. 12 arrive today. The other 8 are coming next week. Next week the supplier says those 8 are discontinued. Now what? You can’t update inventory by 20 because only 12 arrived. You can’t leave the order open forever either. And what happens if someone accidentally processes the same receipt twice? That one scenario turned a simple importer into partial receiving, cancelling outstanding units, receipt history and protection against duplicate stock updates. And I’m still not confident I’ve found every ugly edge case. Real supplier files will probably teach me a few more lessons. Funny how the upload screen was supposed to be the main feature, but most of the work ended up being everything that happens afterwards. What’s one feature you thought would be simple that ended up becoming half your app? submitted by /u/Reasonable_Major_458 [link] [comments]
