A former professor at Macalester College in Minnesota has been charged after allegedly answering nature’s call in a highly inappropriate way. According to court documents, Paul Fischer, who taught Biology at the college for more than 25 years, was accused of urinating on a student’s backpack and could face five years in prison if charged. Fischer, 55, first came under suspicion on December 5, 2025, after a student accused him of urinating on her backpack. According to CBS News, the student had left her bag unattended in the school science center for roughly six minutes. When she returned, she found “urine on her backpack.” According to the court document, the student told investigators that she believed Fischer was the one responsible for urinating on her bag, as she had been outside his office and he was the only one in the area at the time. The investigation determined that the student’s bag and the contents inside were damaged and, after providing receipts, the student was awarded $2,000 in damages, according to The New York Post. However, in a surprising twist, it would come to be revealed that this allegedly wasn’t Fischer’s only pee-related offense at the school. An investigation uncovered more Macalester College Department of Public Safety subsequently conducted its own investigation into Paul Fischer and discovered that his bizarre habit had resulted in multiple complaints. The professor was linked to six reports of “urinations occurring on campus,” according to the investigation. The urine was reportedly found in trash cans, in individuals’ water bottles, and in other professors’ decorations. When questioned on the matter, Fischer allegedly admitted to police that he had “developed a habit” of “urinating in a cup” before disposing of the pee in trash cans and down lab sinks. When asked to explain how he allegedly managed to soak the student’s backpack, the professor claimed that he may have accidentally spilled his urine on the student’s backpack when trying to dispose of a cup of pee in a trash can. In a statement regarding the incident, the college confirmed that Paul Fischer no longer worked as a member of the faculty: “Macalester College is aware of the criminal charge against Paul Fischer. Fischer’s employment with Macalester ended during the 2025–26 academic year,” the statement read. Fischer was charged with first-degree property damage and, if convicted, he will face five years in prison as well as a maximum fine of $10,000. He is due to appear in court in early November.
