Hi everyone! I’m starting an ABSN program soon and want to build my resume since my program is only about a year long. For those who landed new grad RN positions in the Bay Area, especially at Kaiser, Stanford, UCSF, Sutter, or El Camino, what kind of experience did you have before getting hired? Did you work as a CNA, PCT, ER tech, MA, or in another hospital position? Did you volunteer or participate in any extracurriculars that you think helped your application stand out? Since my ABSN is so short, I’m hoping to start working at a hospital as soon as possible rather than waiting until I’ve completed a semester of nursing school to qualify for certain PCT positions. I’d especially love to hear from anyone who worked at a hospital before becoming an RN. Did being an internal applicant actually help you land a new grad position? Do you think the type of job you held mattered, or was simply being employed by the hospital beneficial? Or for people who weren’t an internal hire, what set you apart? I’m trying to figure out where my time and money would be best spent before nursing school starts. I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thank you! submitted by /u/No_Trust_4846 [link] [comments]
