XAUUSD: Gold Defends 4150. Can Buyers Push Toward 4220?GoldOANDA:XAUUSDRichard_PrimeInsightsGold is approaching an important decision point on the H1 chart. After a sharp recovery from the 4085–4100 region, XAUUSD broke through local resistance and rallied toward 4210, bringing price back into the major resistance and buy-side liquidity (BSL) zone. However, the latest rejection from that area has pushed price back toward 4170. Rather than treating this pullback as an immediate bearish reversal, I am watching how price reacts around the Fair Value Gap (FVG) and the rising intraday structure. The key question now is whether buyers can defend the recent imbalance and continue pushing toward 4220, or whether the recovery will lose momentum before reaching the major resistance zone again. For now, my bias is cautiously bullish while the 4155–4170 FVG holds. But I want to see confirmation before committing to that direction. Here are the scenarios I am watching. 🟢 SCENARIO 1 — BUY THE FVG DEFENSE My preferred setup is a bullish continuation from the 4155–4170 FVG. Gold has pulled back after breaking above local resistance and reaching the 4210 area. The current reaction is testing the imbalance left by the previous bullish impulse, which could provide support if buyers remain in control. I do not want to enter simply because price touches the FVG. I want to see the zone defended, followed by a bullish M15 CHOCH or MSS and a successful retest. BUY ENTRY: 4170–4175, after confirmation STOP LOSS: 4153 TAKE PROFIT 1: 4195 TAKE PROFIT 2: 4210 TAKE PROFIT 3: 4220 The setup becomes more attractive if price sweeps nearby SSL, reclaims the FVG, and establishes a bullish lower-timeframe structure. An H1 breakdown below the zone, followed by a failed reclaim, would weaken this scenario. 🔴 SCENARIO 2 — SELL IF THE FVG FAILS What if buyers cannot defend the current imbalance? If an H1 candle closes below the 4155 area and price fails to reclaim it on a retest, the recent bullish recovery could be losing its structural strength. In that case, I would look for a bearish continuation toward the support zone around 4115–4125. SELL ENTRY: 4150–4155, after a failed retest STOP LOSS: 4170 TAKE PROFIT 1: 4135 TAKE PROFIT 2: 4120 TAKE PROFIT 3: 4100 I would not enter immediately after a single bearish candle. The breakdown and failed retest are important because the FVG may still attract buyers. If price quickly reclaims 4155–4170, I would cancel this bearish continuation idea and reassess the structure. 🟢 SCENARIO 3 — BUY THE BREAKOUT ABOVE 4220 The major resistance and BSL zone around 4210–4223 remains the most important upside barrier on this chart. Previous highs have attracted liquidity in this region, and the latest rally has already tested the lower part of the zone. A clean breakout could create room for further upside, but a liquidity sweep alone would not confirm continuation. I want an H1 close above 4223, followed by a successful retest that holds the broken resistance as support. BUY ENTRY: 4220–4225, after a confirmed retest STOP LOSS: 4208 TAKE PROFIT 1: 4235 TAKE PROFIT 2: 4250 TAKE PROFIT 3: 4265 If price only wicks above 4220 and quickly falls back below the zone, I would treat that as a potential liquidity sweep rather than a confirmed breakout. 🔴 SCENARIO 4 — SELL A LIQUIDITY SWEEP AT RESISTANCE There is another possibility worth watching. Gold could rally back toward 4210–4223, sweep the BSL above previous highs, and then reverse if buyers fail to sustain the breakout. That would create a potential bearish setup, but only after price confirms rejection. SELL ENTRY: 4210–4220, after bearish confirmation STOP LOSS: Above the confirmed sweep high TAKE PROFIT 1: 4195 TAKE PROFIT 2: 4170 TAKE PROFIT 3: 4155 I would look for a bearish M15 structure shift after the sweep, followed by a failed retest. Without that confirmation, I would not assume that resistance will hold again. WHAT MATTERS MOST RIGHT NOW? The H1 chart gives us several key decision areas: 4210–4223: Major resistance and BSL. A confirmed breakout could open the way toward higher prices, while a failed breakout could trigger another pullback. 4190–4200: Nearby liquidity and local structure to monitor during any recovery. 4155–4170: The current FVG and the main area where buyers need to demonstrate support. 4115–4125: Major horizontal support and a potential downside destination if the FVG breaks. 4085–4100: The previous reaction zone and lower support area if selling pressure extends further. My preferred scenario is a defense of the 4155–4170 FVG, followed by a recovery toward 4195 and a possible retest of 4210–4223. However, this bullish view depends on the FVG holding and the lower-timeframe structure confirming a continuation. A confirmed breakdown below 4155 would shift my attention toward 4120 instead. I do not want to confuse a pullback with a reversal, or a liquidity sweep with a genuine breakout. The next reaction around the FVG should help clarify which side is gaining control. These are conditional chart-based scenarios, not active trade signals. Entry levels require confirmation, and stop-loss placement should account for volatility and execution conditions. What is your view? Will buyers defend the 4155–4170 FVG and make another attempt at 4220, or will the current pullback develop into a deeper correction toward 4120? Share your bias below. Let's compare the key levels and market structure we are watching.
