The Colts are hoping for some new neighbors.Indianapolis is in the running to land an MLS team, with a new arena to be built near Lucas Oil Stadium by 2031 if the project goes ahead.Lucas Oil Stadium sits on undeveloped landGettyGregg Doyel of the Indianapolis Star reports that the Colts’ front office is “enthusiastically on board” with the plan.The project “would cost a lot of money” and potentially tie up some state funds, while the potential team’s ownership group would fit some of the bill.It could be an expansion or relocation, and backing from the $8 billion NFL franchise is a feather in Indy’s cap.“We think it would be good for the city — and what’s good for the city is good for the Colts,” COO Pete Ward said.The USSF has a shortlist of around 20 cities looking to host matches at the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup and Indianapolis is among them.
