Moses Itauma can use David Haye as inspiration to bounce back from defeat and become a world champion.Itauma was tipped to reach the top of the sport and become a heavyweight superstar comparable to Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson.Itauma fell at his highest hurdle against Hrgovic, but his career is far from over at the age of just 21GettyHaye was forced to overcome adversity and defeat to become one of Britain’s biggest stars in the modern eraBut in his crowning moment, a chance to win his first world title against Filip Hrgovic, he came up short and was stopped by the rugged Croatian. It was a bitter blow for the young talent, who had run out of steam after such a positive first half to the fight. And now he faces a rebuild to try and work his way back into the world title mix and fulfil his ambition.Itauma can learn valuable lesson from HayetalkSPORT Boxing pundits Gareth A Davies and Spencer Oliver broke down how Itauma can come back and make an impact on the division again. And Oliver explained how Itauma can draw confidence from Haye’s success following an early career KO defeat to Carl Thompson in 2004.Oliver said on Fight Night daily: “It was similar to when a young David Haye came up against Carl Thompson.“Everyone was talking about him being a superstar and then he blew a gasket in the same way Moses did.“They both had big KO percentages, but the problem was when they didn’t go over, it was a problem.“But as I said, he’s going on to become a world champion and I think he will be a phenomenal superstar too.”Davies then continued: “Exactly that. There are loads of times in history when this has happened.“There is so many times it has gone wrong for a young heavyweight where the wind is taken out of the sails.“Moses has the skills and will really learn from this in my view, and his whole team. What happened to Haye and what did he achieve?Haye was stopped by 40-year-old Thompson in what was a bitter blow to his credentials as a rising star. But he built back up and gained valuable experience before rising to become a unified cruiserweight world champion.‘Hayemaker’ built up a huge reputation and then went on to conquer the heavyweight division with a famous win over Nikolai Valuev.Watch Boxing on DAZN*If you click a link in this boxout, we will earn affiliate revenueSign up to DAZN to access the definitive subscription for boxing fans.Upgrade to DAZN Ultimate from just £24.99/month, guaranteeing access to 185+ fights annually, a minimum of 12 pay-per-views at no extra cost, as well as every Lega Serie A match and other elite football access.Alternatively, DAZN Standard is just £15.99/month, with the caveat you will have to pay for pay-per-view events.Click here to sign up.What next for Itauma?Itauma will naturally draw parallels to big names who have fallen to defeat early in their career. He is remaining defiant despite criticism, and will stick with long-term trainer Ben Davison.Plans are for Itauma to return at a lower level in the early stages of 2027 to build up activity and gain further experience to work on his craft.
