Jabalpur, October 9, 2026: Centre for Criminal Justice Administration and Research, DNLU Jabalpur, in collaboration with Agnel School of Law, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, commenced the Two-Day Single-Credit Course on New Criminal Laws on 9 October 2026, with SCC Online as Knowledge Partner.The course has been organised under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Manoj K. Sinha, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor and Dr. Praveen Tripathi, Registrar.Inaugural Ceremony and Chief Guest AddressThe inaugural ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Hon’ble Shri Justice S.K. Palo Former Judge, High Court Madhya Pradesh, alongside the Directors of CJAR, Dr Gautam Gupta and Dr. Sankalp Singh, commenced with the auspicious lighting of the lamp.Dr. Praveen Tripathi, warmly welcomed the dignitaries, guests, and students.While delivering the Chief Guest Address Hon’ble Justice offered wide-ranging experience, setting the stage for his address. Justice Palo then offered his perspective on the new criminal laws, after which Dr. Sankalp Singh and Dr. Gautam Gupta introduced the course, giving participants a clear sense of what the days ahead would hold for them.Release of Book on Criminal Justice ReformsThe ceremony also marked the release of the book “Reimagining Criminal Justice in India: Critical Perspectives on BNS, BNSS and BSA, 2023”. The book carries a foreword by Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha, Vice-Chancellor, DNLU Jabalpur, and is edited by Dr. Gautam Gupta, Dr. Sankalp Singh and Dr. Runjhun Assistant Professor & Head of Research Cell, Agnel School Of Law.Session I: Registration of Criminal Cases and InvestigationSession I of the course was addressed by Dr. Neeraj Tiwari, Associate Professor, National Law University Delhi and Senior Faculty, Committee for Reforms in Criminal Laws. He covered the registration of a criminal case and investigation, including processes to register FIRs and elaborating why reforms are necessary.Session II: BNS, Inchoate Offences and Offences Against Women and ChildrenSession II, delivered by Prof. Ishrat Hussain, Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh and Prof. Anubhav Kumar, Assistant Professor of Law, RGNLU, Patiala and Research Consultant, Committee for reforms in Criminal Laws introduced the participants to BNS, deleted offences, inchoate offences, and offences against women and children.Session III: Offences Against the Human Body, State and Public TranquillityTo end such a fruitful day, session III was covered by Prof. Shiva Priyamvada, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi which discussed critical discussions on offences affecting the human body, offences against the State, offences relating to coins, currency and stamps, offences against public tranquillity, and terrorism.Course Organisation and CollaborationThe course is organised by joint efforts of Dr. Gautam Gupta and Dr. Sankalp Singh as Director, CJAR, Dr. Ambarish Patnigere and Dr. Rajesh Anant Sakhare as Principal and Director, Agnel School of Law.
