Six Speedy Fillies for the Week of Sept. 28-Oct. 4

Wait 5 sec.

This week's top two both came courtesy of last week's rescheduled GII Gallant Bloom Stakes.6. EGYPTIAN MAU (SAf), BEL, 10/1-5th, GIII Belmont Turf Sprint Stakes, 6 furlongs (turf)Beyer Speed Figure- 96 (VIDEO)(m, 6, by Fire Away–Savannah Cat {SAf}, by Fort Wood)O-Team Valor International. B-Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein (SAf). T-Neil Drysdale. J-Antonio Fresu.Team Valor's Barry Irwin is a big fan of the new Belmont Park: first U.S.S. Valor (War of Will)'s impressive GI Champagne Stakes romp and now Egyptian Mau's dramatic rail-skimming 31-1 upset last Thursday. Neither are Keeneland-bound for different reasons: Egyptian Mau was sourced from South Africa by Irwin in 2024 and wasn't nominated to the Breeders' Cup. Instead she is scheduled to be sold at Fasig-Tipton November as a new U.S. graded winner.5. CLASSIC Q, KEE, 10/3-8th, GI First Lady Stakes, 1 mile (turf)Beyer Speed Figure- 96 (VIDEO)(f, 4, by Classic Empire–Lovely Em, by Scat Daddy)O-Gary Barber, Blue Crevalle Racing and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners. B-Winning Bloodstock (Ky). T-Mark Casse. J-John Velazquez.Earlier in her career, Casse believed Classic Q might be better as an off-the-pace type, but she had different intentions and it was decided not to argue the point. Thus her three previous stakes victories had been in frontrunning fashion, including the GI Just a Game in June at Saratoga. But when Lush Lips (GB) (Ten Sovereigns {Ire}) stormed to the lead in midstretch of the First Lady and her ears went up and her momentum slowed, Classic Q capitalized with a fourth-to-first rally to put her nose in front. However, don't be surprised if she's back on the lead in the longer GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf.4. REGALED, DEL, 10/3-10th, GIII Delaware Handicap, 1 1/8 milesBeyer Speed Figure- 97 (VIDEO)(m, 5, by Mohaymen–Ascot Walk, by Daaher)O-Ribble Farms, Hoolie Racing Stable and Kamp Racing Stables. B-Chris Baccari (Ky). T-Whit Beckman. J-Jose Ramos. In becoming the eighth two-time Del 'Cap winner, Regaled tuned up nicely for the GI Breeders' Cup Distaff–again. Last year she won by 6 1/4 lengths prior to her third in the Distaff, where she finished just a half-length behind Nitrogen (Medaglia d'Oro). This was a three-length score with a career-best Beyer, and Beckman believes Keeneland's surface and longer stretch should be kinder than Del Mar to her last-to-first style.3. FULLY SUBSCRIBED, KEE, 10/4-9th, GI Spinster Stakes, 1 1/8 milesBeyer Speed Figure- 98 (VIDEO)(f, 4, by Tiz the Law–Sweetbaby, by Candy Ride {Arg})O-Klaravich Stables. B-Payson Stud (Ky). T-Chad Brown. J-Flavien Prat. The Spinster scratched down to three horses, the smallest Spinster field since the race was inaugurated in 1956. But at least all three were Grade I winners, and Fully Subscribed continued on her resurgent path with a 3 1/4-length triumph over talented 3-year-old Counting Stars (Honor A. P.). Now she and Regaled (above) are set to be rematched with division leader Nitrogen in the Distaff.2. SENZA PAROLE, BEL, 10/1-3rd, GII Gallant Bloom Stakes, 6 1/2 furlongsBeyer Speed Figure- 100 (2nd) (VIDEO)(f, 4, by Gun Runner–Senza Te, by Street Cry {Ire})O/B-Don Alberto Stable/Corporation (Ky). T-Chad Brown. J-Flavien Prat. This 'TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard' is finally starting to realize the potential she flashed as a juvenile with back-to-back career-top Beyers of 96 in a Saratoga allowance and now this 100 in game pursuit of R Disaster (below). But even though that number could be competitive, don't look for her in the GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint. “She's not ready to jump up to a Grade I yet,” Brown told DRF. “But I think there's some graded stakes with her name on it.”1. R DISASTER, BEL, 10/1-3rd, GII Gallant Bloom Stakes, 6 1/2 furlongsBeyer Speed Figure- 103 (VIDEO)(m, 5, by Awesome Slew–Making Havoc, by Gottcha Gold)O-Averill Racing and Anthony Mattera. B-Ocala Stud and J. Michael O'Farrell Jr (Fla). T-Saffie Joseph, Jr. J-Jose Ortiz.R Disaster legitimately outran Ways and Means (Practical Joke) in the GI Derby City Distaff in May, then her persistent hind foot issues flared up and she faded badly in the GI Ballerina. “We knew we had to run in the Ballerina win, lose or draw to get her fitness level back,” Joseph explained. The Gallant Bloom–which she won in 2025–was the test. Pass, and she sees Ways and Means again in the GI Filly & Mare Sprint. Fail, and she is likely retired. But she made the grade in a big way, with a relaxed pace in her favor en route to the same 103 Beyer she got at Churchill Downs. The post Six Speedy Fillies for the Week of Sept. 28-Oct. 4 appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
