Glenn Bedingfield Wants More Resources For Malta’s Police At ‘Every Level’

Home Affairs and Security Minister Glenn Bedingfield has called for more resources to be made available to Malta’s police force at every level, including further investment in training, specialisation and technology.Bedingfield made the comments during a ceremony recognising serving and former police officers with Long and Efficient Service Medals and clasps.“I want to see the Police having more resources at their disposal at every level,” Bedingfield said, adding that the government would continue investing in officers’ working conditions and training.He also identified organised crime as an area requiring a stronger response, particularly drug trafficking, human trafficking and people smuggling.“The fight against organised crime must remain a priority if we want a society that can live with peace of mind,” Bedingfield said, linking public security with quality of life and economic prosperity.The minister also said police procedures would continue to be reviewed and improved to ensure officers have the tools and capabilities necessary to carry out their duties.Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà, meanwhile, paid tribute to the officers receiving medals, saying the awards represented not only their years of service but also the long hours, courage and commitment they had given to protecting communities.What areas do you think Malta’s police force needs more resources in?•
