Two beautifully-bred exciting Night Of Thunder fillies Song Of The Clouds and Silver Lake lined up for a deep renewal of the G3 Newmarket Pony Academy Pride Stakes on Friday and provided a dramatic finale for their trainer William Haggas as they came home alone separated by the width of the track.Barring a dead-heat, the outcome with the Oppenheimer homebred Song Of The Clouds edging Wathnan's highly progressive summer festival-goer Silver Lake in a photo with both utterly dominant over their groups and out of sight of each other was the ideal scenario for Somerville Lodge. Never one to exaggerate when it comes to his runners, Haggas was notably glowing in his praise for the winner. “She's pretty good, I think,” he said. “Her work's always been pretty impressive and we've always liked her. The aim is to try and win a Group 1 for sure.”Runner-up on debut to Ombudsman's sister Synchronicity on debut at Newbury in April, Song Of The Clouds had opened her account at Redcar the following month before sustaining a fracture and had only one other outing behind her entering this test having beaten the subsequent winner Wootz at Windsor last month.Settled behind two rivals against the far rail early by Cieren Fallon as the winner of handicaps at the Qatar Goodwood Festival, York Ebor Festival and Doncaster St Leger Festival Silver Lake tracked the leaders stand's side, the eventual winner was in front three out with everything already covered around her. As Silver Lake broke loose on the other rail, it was a question of which hit the line first as they pulled away from smart company. Those left adrift of the front pair included last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf runner-up Pacific Mission (Lope De Vega), 4 1/2 lengths behind Silver Lake in third, TDN Rising Star and Musidora runner-up Felicitas (Teofilo) in fourth and the Coronation Stakes runner-up Touleen (Lope De Vega) in fifth.“Silver Lake has run an absolute stormer, she's improved and improved and I feel sorry for her but at least she thinks she's won,” Haggas said of the runner-up. “For sure, she'll definitely stay in training. She has grown a leg since getting beaten earlier in the year and has done fantastic.”Turning his attention back to the winner, he added, “Cieren said she is still learning and over-raced a bit. It's been a bit of a rush to get her back after he fracture and we wanted to wait until it rained, but she did it well at Windsor and I very much hope she'll stay in training. Mr Oppenheimer likes his racing, he lost the mare this year and so this one will be a nice replacement.”“She'll have a Group 3 penalty now, so we need to see if she can be a Group 1 filly. She has lots of speed, so I think we might start next year with the Dahlia here.”A @WilliamHaggas 1-2 Split by the width of the track, Song Of The Clouds edges out stablemate Silver Lake in the G3 Pride Stakes. Two progressive fillies @CierenFallonJr3 https://t.co/J8HVByTPhr— Racing TV (@RacingTV) October 9, 2026The post ‘She’s Pretty Good I Think’: Song Of The Clouds Leads Haggas One-Two In The Pride appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
