Just launched my first mobile app Fontavio, free map of drinking water, toilets, showers and other water services for travellers

Wait 5 sec.

Hi everyone, I'm a solo developer from Finland. I used to live in a van around Europe, and the daily apps I mostly used showed places to sleep. Most days, I needed somewhere to fill and empty water tanks, use a toilet, or take a shower, and I couldn't find an app made just for that. So I built one myself while keeping costs as low as I could. The most expensive part has been the Apple Developer program, monthly running costs are under 10 euros at the moment. Fontavio shows 650,000+ drinking water, fill-up taps, toilets, showers, self-service laundry, dump stations, and marina pump-outs on one map. The places come mostly from OpenStreetMap, plus additions and fixes from users. 50 countries: Europe plus the US and Canada. Users can see what's closest or pick a place on the map, then follow the compass or use navigation. They can add a missing place, fix a detail, or confirm in one tap that a place still works. It's aimed at campervan and boat people, cyclists and runners who need a fountain on the way, hikers, and travellers who need a refill, a shower, or a toilet. It also works for anyone who just needs the nearest drinking water or toilet. Notable features: - No login needed, and all filters are free. - Each place can have details, photos, and reviews. - Wheelchair access and changing tables are tagged, and other accessibility details can be added by users. - User location is never stored on the server. - Free with some ads, a subscription removes them and adds offline maps, a route planner, and private notes. It's now live on Google Play and the App Store. Any features that seem missing? Anything broken? submitted by /u/rasmusjaa [link] [comments]
