Chronica: A browser-based BYOK AI roleplay client with token-efficient memory (Structured RAG).

[Disclosure: I am the developer] I've been working on Chronica, a browser-based AI roleplay client. The goal is to handle long-term memory without relying on Vector DBs or embedding API calls, which usually add latency and extra token costs. Architecture: Chronica uses a Structured (Lexical) RAG system that runs entirely client-side: • Extractor: Parses the latest exchange and categorizes key facts (Character, Location, Item, Event) with a corresponding weight. • Scoring: A local script evaluates the memory bank against the current scene state. Only facts that pass a relevance threshold are injected into the prompt, kept within a ~2000 token budget. • Consolidator: Periodically runs to deduplicate facts and prune outdated context as the memory bank grows. Current Implementation: • Deployment: 100% client-side. No backend server. Installable as a PWA on mobile and desktop. • BYOK: Supports 7 providers (OpenRouter, Groq, Gemini, DeepSeek, Mistral, Grok, Together). API keys are stored locally in the browser. • Status: Closed-source for now while I refine the core memory engine. 🔗 Link: https://chronica-rpg.vercel.app (Screenshots of the UI and Memory system attached/in comments.) feedback is welcome! submitted by /u/mayvandi [link] [comments]
