China has proposed stricter rules for automakers, including a ban on fully hidden door handles, foldable or flexible displays and the use of “zero-gravity” or swivel seats while driving. The country’s industry ministry said the proposed regulations aim to address safety and environmental risks arising from new car models launched without adequate testing. The draft rules also require automakers to submit more technical details on innovative designs and research and development testing from January 1, 2027.
