We’ve told you - Germany's army is swapping rifles, one unit and one shooting range at a time. This is TFB's Photo of the Day and here we have soldiers of the 1st Company, Panzerpionierbataillon 701, based in Gera (Germany) that are getting acquainted with their future service rifle well ahead of their own unit's scheduled fielding date. Since December 2025, roughly 12,000 G95s have reached Bundeswehr armories as the rifle gradually replaces the long-serving G36. By year's end, the Bundeswehr expects to field 20,000 G95 KA1 carbines, working toward a long-term goal of 250,000 rifles across A1 and KA1 variants by 2032. That’s roughly 38,000 rifles per year on average, if my math is correct. Full fielding for this unit is still roughly a year out, but the early exposure is giving instructors a head start on the transition.
