Portion AI - I got tired of 9.99/mo AI calorie trackers, so I built one for 2.99/mo

Wait 5 sec.

Hey r/SideProject. Solo dev here, and I just launched my first iOS app. Every AI calorie tracker I looked at converged on $9.99 a month or more, which felt steep for an app that reads a photo of your lunch. So I built Portion AI: snap a photo of your food, or just type "two eggs and toast", and the AI logs the meal with macros. The thing I actually like best is the text logging. Every competitor is photo-first, which means staging a photo of every meal. Typing what you ate is faster for real life, so I made it a first-class input running through the same AI pipeline as the photo logging. It's $2.99/mo with a 7-day free trial (deliberately way under the $9.99 standard). Live on the App Store since September: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/portion-ai/id6806276990 Full disclosure: I'm the founder and only dev, this is my app. Would genuinely love feedback from this sub: what would make you actually switch from your current tracker, and what would stop you from trusting an AI food log at all? submitted by /u/Other_Jellyfish_2184 [link] [comments]
