Hello everyone, I wanted to share a fascinating specimen and gather some insights from the community. **Background:** I acquired this skull along with several long bones through the private trade and immediately recognized that it was not a standard human skull. Key morphological features include, an extremely robust brow ridge, a strikingly low frontal bone, and a robust occipital region. The skull also has UV reactivity, glowing an orangish-red consistent with calcite mineralization. **Current Research & Data:** I sent the skull to Paul Sereno’s Fossil Lab at the University of Chicago (UChicago) for micro-CT scanning, and I will be conducting isotope testing in the coming months. Due to skull damage, estimates place the cranial capacity at approximately **1,225 cc**, and I am continuing to collect detailed measurements. **Access the 3D Model:** You can view and interact with the processed 3D CT scan model here: https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/mystery-skull-ccb44b52141e4bea8004b2515b7aa265?fbclid=PAVERFWAU3ATRleHRuA2FlbQIxMABwZG9mAmZkaWQWUQDon0XPjzrv7LfeSnHvQjMXnzCxuHNydGMGYXBwX2lkDzEyNDAyNDU3NDI4NzQxNAABp8Cd8k001ERnVJRZCxb3jezDCUSJNvugaKHRMwYmVawVtLjY-bVwOOUlhePn\_aem\_b8ijuczGNi8M0V1HCFT7hQ I am happy to provide the raw CT scan data to researchers, anthropologists, or anyone with the expertise and interest to analyze it further. submitted by /u/XETOVS to r/fossilid [link] [comments]
