Meeting a favorite character can be just as important as riding a major attraction during a Walt Disney World vacation. But guests hoping to interact with several familiar faces are now out of luck.Over the years, Disney World has permanently pulled several characters from its parks. Some disappeared when attractions closed. Others left as entertainment offerings changed, while a few simply stopped appearing without a major farewell.Six longtime characters once found across multiple Disney World parks are no longer part of the regular experience. For guests who remember meeting them, their absence shows just how much Disney World’s character lineup has evolved.A Children’s Favorite Loses Her SpotDoc McStuffins became a familiar face at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as Disney Junior grew into a major part of the park’s offerings for younger visitors. The character appeared in Disney Junior entertainment and became part of the park’s character lineup, giving children who watched the animated series an opportunity to see her outside the television screen. However, Disney eventually began updating the Disney Junior presence at Hollywood Studios. The biggest change came as the park prepared for Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!, which brought Mickey Mouse and other current Disney Junior characters into a new stage production. That transition meant the previous Disney Junior lineup couldn’t remain intact. Her spooky-but-friendly personality made her especially recognizable to children who watched the show.As Disney refreshed the Disney Junior area and moved forward with Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!, Vampirina’s presence ended as well. That means two characters who once represented a major part of Disney Junior’s Hollywood Studios footprint have now disappeared. And the removals aren’t limited to Hollywood Studios. Two Familiar Faces Disappear TogetherDisney’s Animal Kingdom once allowed guests to encounter Kenai and Koda from Brother Bear (2003).The pair made sense at a park centered around animals and nature. Their appearances also gave Brother Bear fans a rare opportunity to meet characters from a Disney animated movie that has never maintained the same theme park presence as bigger franchises.Eventually, however, Kenai and Koda disappeared from Disney’s Animal Kingdom.Neither character remains part of the park’s regular character lineup today, leaving Brother Bear with very little representation inside Disney World’s theme parks.Once Disney removes characters like these from regular appearances, guests may go years without another opportunity to meet them. The next disappearance, however, came as part of a much larger transformation.Credit: DisneyA Major Closure Takes Another Piece With ItBr’er Rabbit had one of the most recognizable presences on this list because of his connection to Splash Mountain. The character played a central role in the attraction’s story as guests followed his adventure before eventually plunging down the ride’s famous final drop.Disney permanently closed Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom in January 2023 as the company prepared to transform the attraction into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. With Splash Mountain gone, its characters disappeared with it.That included Br’er Rabbit, whose presence at Magic Kingdom had been tied closely to the attraction for decades.Tiana’s Bayou Adventure eventually opened in 2024 with a completely different story and character lineup inspired by The Princess and the Frog (2009).As a result, Br’er Rabbit’s longtime place inside Magic Kingdom ended alongside Splash Mountain.Credit: DisneyA Classic Tradition Comes to an EndMerlin once played a memorable role in one of Magic Kingdom’s smaller entertainment experiences. The Sword in the Stone ceremony allowed guests to gather around the famous sword in Fantasyland while Merlin selected participants to attempt to pull it from the stone. The mini-show added spontaneous entertainment to the park, allowing guests to unexpectedly become part of a Disney performance. When Disney discontinued the ceremony, Merlin’s regular live appearances tied to the experience ended. Although he remained connected to other Disney World experiences over the years, he no longer maintained a regular presence in Fantasyland.Merlin reportedly made a rare appearance in September 2026 during the character gathering celebrating the grand opening of The Magic of Disney Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. However, that special appearance did not mark his return to Disney World’s regular character lineup.Today, Merlin isn’t a regularly scheduled meet-and-greet character, and Disney has announced no plans to revive the Sword in the Stone ceremony.Credit: DisneyDisney World’s Character Lineup Keeps Moving ForwardCharacter removals aren’t unusual at Walt Disney World. Disney continually adjusts its entertainment lineup based on new movies, television shows, attractions, park projects, and changing guest interests.Still, that doesn’t make every disappearance easy for longtime fans.Doc McStuffins, Vampirina, Kenai, Koda, Br’er Rabbit, and Merlin all represented different periods in Disney World’s history. Some disappeared because Disney replaced the experiences around them. Others simply stopped appearing as the parks moved in a new direction. For guests hoping to see these six characters during an upcoming Disney World vacation, the reality is disappointing.Their regular appearances are gone, and Disney has given no indication that any of them will return. The post Disney World Permanently Cuts 6 Longtime Characters Across Multiple Parks appeared first on Inside the Magic.
