Velmurugan and K.K. Ramakrishnan took a serious view of the delay in appointing an inquiry officer to conduct departmental inquiry against erring government officials into the case pertaining to misappropriation of funds sanctioned for the welfare of Adi Dravidar Hostel students in Sivaganga district.The court was hearing the public interest litigation petition filed by A. Sakthivel of Karaikudi in Sivaganga district, who said the petition was filed with regard to the huge scam committed by government officials involving more than ₹2.35 crore sanctioned for the welfare of the Adi Dravidar Hostel students.The sanctioned amount was for the essential requirements of the students such as hair oil, soap and washing powder. From 2017 to 2023, the amount sanctioned by the government was swindled by the officials and the staff in charge, and no amount had been credited to the accounts of the students, he said.Following complaints lodged by an activist, Boominathan, Sivaganga Town Police had registered a case. It was transferred to Sivaganga District Crime Branch. The investigation revealed that eight Tahsildars were involved in the misappropriation of funds, he said.He said since the persons involved in the crime were revenue officials, and in the rank of Tahsildar, the District Crime Branch was reluctant to proceed with the investigation. He sought a CB-CID probe in the case. The court posted the matter for hearing after four weeks.Published - October 09, 2026 09:13 pm ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
