Haji Wright to remain sidelined until “November at best”

Wait 5 sec.

Haji Wright has missed the opening part of the English Premier League season and will likely remain sidelined for the foreseeable future.Wright is not expected to play for the remainder of this month, Coventry City manager Frank Lampard confirmed Friday in his prematch press conference. The American striker has been out of action for club and country since the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering a quadriceps injury in Coventry City preseason camp. Wright was projected to miss weeks-to-multiple months due to the injury, putting the newly-promoted Sky Blues in a worrying spot ahead of their EPL return. Wright’s injury forced the Sky Blues to bolster their attack with Taiwo Awoniyi and Sidiki Cherif joining ahead of Deadline Day. Lampard hasn’t given an official timeline for Wright’s return but stated that he could be back in November at the earliest.“Haji won’t be back until November at best and I don’t want to put pressure on it because it’s an awkward injury,” Lampard said. The 28-year-old Wright played just two minutes for the U.S. Men’s National Team last summer despite helping Coventry City win the EFL Championship last spring. Wright scored 18 goals in all competitions for Lampard’s squad, sealing a spot in the league’s Team of the Year. He’s tallied 49 goals in 124 appearances for the Sky Blues since joining from Turkish club Antalyaspor in August 2023. Coventry City resumes Premier League play on Monday against Newcastle United before closing the month against Tottenham, Fulham, and Sunderland.
