Disney is set to close its beloved show inspired by The Lion King at one theme park. The Lion King has been a major part of Disney’s theme parks for decades. Since the original animated film debuted in 1994, Simba, Timon, Pumbaa, and Rafiki have become familiar faces across Disney’s resorts, appearing in everything from character meet-and-greets to parades and elaborate stage productions.Credit: DisneyAt Walt Disney World, Festival of the Lion King has entertained guests at Disney’s Animal Kingdom since 1998. The 40-minute show combines live singing, acrobatics, dancing, and giant puppets, bringing classic songs such as Circle of Life and Hakuna Matata to life at the Harambe Theatre (as well as imparting the endless joy that comes with watching grown adult guests trying to mimic the sound a giraffe makes). The franchise is especially popular at Disneyland Paris, which is building an entire Lion King land at Disney Adventure World, complete with a major water ride similar to Splash Mountain and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure beneath Pride Rock.Credit: Brittany DiCologero, Inside the MagicHowever, its existing The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands stage show also faces closure in early 2027.‘The Lion King’ Show Closure Details, RevealedThe Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands debuted at Disneyland Paris in 2019. The 30-minute production retells Simba’s journey from cub to king through live singing, dancing, drumming, and acrobatics. That means guests will only be down one show for just over a month.Given its sheer popularity, The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands seems unlikely to disappear permanently anytime soon. The show currently occupies Frontierland Theater, the largest theater stage at Disneyland Paris. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if it eventually relocated to Disney Adventure World once the new Lion King land opens.Disneyland Paris regularly runs its stage productions in seasons, with shows often taking breaks for several weeks or months before returning. For example, at neighboring Disney Adventure World, Mickey and the Magician paused from August 31 to December 12, 2025 (and is set to close for most of 2027 due to the refurbishment of Animagique Theatre), while TOGETHER: a Pixar Musical Adventure took a scheduled break from August 3 to September 30, 2026.Have you ever seen The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands at Disneyland Paris? The post Disney Confirms Impending Closure of 7-Year-Old ‘The Lion King’ Theme Park Show appeared first on Inside the Magic.
