Ahead of this weekend’s meeting at Old Trafford, we have picked a combined XI from Tottenham and Man United based on current form, availability and what their players have shown so far this season. The three-week international break has come to an end, and attention now turns back towards the Premier League as players return from their respective national camps. For Tottenham, action begins on Saturday when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford, hoping to end their five-game winless run.United have also made a disappointing start to the new season, although they have managed one more win than Tottenham. That leaves them 12th in the Premier League table, three points clear of Spurs, who sit 20th.Both clubs added plenty of new faces over the summer. Some have impressed, some have struggled, and some have barely featured at all – so here is how we would line up the two squads based on what they have shown so far.Credit: @reclusemedia / InstagramTottenham and Man United combined XIGoalkeeper: Senne LammensThis was a very narrow and difficult choice. Tottenham’s Antonin Kinsky has kept two clean sheets compared to Lammens’ none, but both goalkeepers have conceded the same number of goals (8).Lammens has also had a weaker defensive line in front of him and has therefore had to make more saves than Kinsky. He also has the higher save percentage and edges the battle further because his goals prevented figure is positive (0.97), whereas Kinsky’s is negative (-1.35). Right-back: Diogo DalotTottenham’s only natural right-back, Pedro Porro, is ruled out for this fixture, meaning Archie Gray is expected to fill in on Saturday. Gray has been a decent makeshift right-back for Spurs this season, but Dalot’s numbers at both ends of the pitch are comfortably ahead of his.Centre-back: Jan Paul Van HeckeThe Tottenham centre-back is a doubt for this fixture after returning from the Netherlands camp with a foot injury, although he has not been ruled out.Van Hecke has been one of Tottenham’s brighter players this season. He was poor against Aston Villa and also struggled in the Netherlands’ first game against Germany, but he still edges Harry Maguire here. Both defenders have played every minute for their clubs in the Premier League this season and have conceded the same number of goals. Van Hecke, however, has better numbers for tackles, blocks and clearances.Centre-back: Micky Van de VenThe Tottenham captain has been solid at the back this season, with Spurs conceding four goals from the four games in which Van de Ven has been on the pitch. That is still a fair few, but it looks better when you consider Tottenham conceded four across the two games he wasn’t there.Lisandro Martinez has also been good for Man United and has arguably been their best defender, but not a single defensive metric of his is better than Van de Ven’s this season.Left-back: Andy RobertsonRobertson will most probably not start this game ahead of Destiny Udogie, who will have returned from his fitness troubles, given the former Liverpool man has not been at his best across the four Premier League games he has started.Even so, he has still been much better than Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu have been for Manchester United in the position.Central midfield: Rodrigo Bentancur Spurs’ best player so far this season, Rodrigo Bentancur finally looks like the player he was during his prime 22/23 days.Unfortunately for Youri Tielemans, who has also been very good for United, even his performances have not been enough to edge out this version of Bentancur.Photo by SpursWebCentral midfield: Kobbie Mainoo There is a big pool of players to choose from here, with Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Lucas Bergvall representing Tottenham, while Andrey Santos, Carlos Baleba and Mainoo are the options from United. Most of them simply have not been as good and consistent for their clubs as Mainoo has been, or in Baleba’s case, are yet to play a single minute for Man United.Attacking midfield: Bruno Fernandes On one side, you have the Premier League’s best midfielder this season, who has already bagged three goals and an assist in four games, and on the other, there is effectively no competition. That is because De Zerbi has not had a single fully fit No.10 available all season, forcing him to use Conor Gallagher or Mateus Fernandes in the position – and both have been very poor.James Maddison will hopefully make his first start for the club on Saturday, and perhaps, when the reverse fixture comes around, this will not be quite as straightforward a decision.Right wing: Bryan Mbeumo Mohammed Kudus has not started a single Premier League game for Tottenham this season, so this is an easy one for Mbeumo, who has already bagged two goals.Left wing: SavioMarcus Rashford has not looked settled for large parts of the season, producing poor end product and looking short of confidence.Savio, on the other hand, is second in the Premier League for take-ons per 90 and has been an absolute delight to watch. Mathys Tel is another option on the left, but there is little point discussing that one given how poor his Premier League form has been.Striker: Matheus CunhaMatheus Cunha has been Michael Carrick’s go-to striker this season due to the lack of options there, and the Brazilian has done a decent job, already managing two goals. That is more than Tottenham’s two strikers, Dominic Solanke and Omar Marmoush, have managed combined – neither has scored. Even Benjamin Sesko, who has played only 76 minutes all season, has found the net once.Hopefully, our next Tottenham vs Man United combined XI in 2027 will be far more competitive!READ MORE: Three winners and three losers from Tottenham’s international break – Spurs WebThe post Tottenham and Man United combined XI based on this season makes for sad reading appeared first on Spurs Web.
