How can I be a great private duty nurse for a very complex kid?

Wait 5 sec.

I've done a little private duty nursing in the past, under a year of experience and all of my patients were very stable and "easy." I just signed on with a new patient, he is very very complex. I've trained in the home and the training can be ongoing for as long as I want, everyone wants me to feel comfortable and there is no pressure. It's honestly a dream situation though.. The parents are amazing, they treat their nurses so well, they give them space. It's MINUTES from my house, I can do two 12's per week!! The patient requires a lot of care, so I'm not going to be bored to death (which I hated about PDN in the past.) With that being said, any advice or tips on how I can be the best nurse for this patient? I want the parents to feel comfortable with me and not feel like I am some unsafe idiot who can't take care of their kid. I know it will take time, lots of time for me to get in a groove and feel less anxious and more competent. I'm someone who is hard on myself, and I push myself to be an expert right away, when that isn't always realistic. submitted by /u/ylimethor [link] [comments]
